There was confusion and mild tension in Ebonyi State as two factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged rallies to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s return to Nigeria after his medical trip to London and protest for and against the state government’s proposed $150 million loan. The two factions were led by Senator Julius Ucha and Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, respectively. The loan is being sourced from the African Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank for construction of over 198 kilometres road in the state. The rallies and protests affected human and vehicular movements in Abakaliki, the state capital, as security agents were on hand to forestall breakdown of law and order. A lot of people have argued that the security man was being an ‘oversabi’ , while others argue that he was merely doing his appointed job. Footballer Lionel Messi came to the rescue of a young fan who was turned away after he snuck past security to try to meet him. As the Barcelona striker was being ushered into an hotel, the boy tried to meet him but was dragged away before getting the chance. However, Messi saw the tearful boy being taken away and demanded that they bring him back. On Monday August 14, Justin Okonoboh lost his job as the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. I watched part of the proceedings where the Right Honourable Speaker was roughed up as one of the members pushed him out of his chair. This event happened on the 99th day since our dear President Muhammadu Buhari travelled out of Nigeria on medical tourism. Okonoboh shared the same fate with his predecessor, Victor Edoroh, was also removed last year. Though they threw some punches, none of the Honourable members ended in the hospital or the mortuary as it once happed in the National Assembly. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that he is ready to kill anyone who touches his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Foluke Adeboye.
